On February 6, itch.io made a statement on Twitter, saying “NFTs are scam.” The message went viral, getting over 211k likes and 42k retweets in 24 hours.
itch.io also asked NFT evangelists, who think they are “legitimately useful for anything other than the exploitation of creators, financial scams, and the destruction of the planet,” to reevaluate their life choices.

Peace ✌️

Game companies have been trying to step into the NFT space for a while now, with Ubisoft being the most vocal of all. It got to a point where developers announce their blockchain initiatives only to receive backlash and apologize 24 hours later.
Some companies, however, remain skeptical about this trend. Steam removed all NFT games from the store in October 2021. Hazelight Studios founder Josef Fares said that he would rather get shot in the knee than add NFTs in his future games. And Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney cited scam as one of the reasons for NFTs not being used in Fortnite and the company’s other titles
